Tomorrowland 2005 Main Stage

The inaugural year featured a relatively simple main stage with a large circus tent-inspired structure. It had colorful banners and lights, reflecting the festival’s early days.

Tomorrowland 2006 Main Stage

The second edition saw a more significant stage upgrade, with a larger and more visually appealing design. The theme focused on fairy tales and fantasy, creating a magical atmosphere. Pyro’s were added too!

Tomorrowland 2007 Main Stage

In 2007, it was the last time the main stage looked simple. However, four screens had now been added and a wall of light beams. The visual show began to take on serious proportions.

Tomorrowland 2008 Main Stage

2008 was certainly a big step forward, as for the first time the main stage formed a distinctive theme. But whether this was a swimming turtle or a flying buffalo is anyone’s guess.

Tomorrowland 2009 Main Stage

For this year, the main stage embraced a “Masker” theme, characterized by large masks adorning the structure, giving it a unique and mysterious appearance. The big mask was a little creepy, though.

Tomorrowland 2010 Main Stage

In 2010, the friendly, smiling sun appeared under a rainbow. On all sides, the main stage was expanded with towers of water lilies and additional elements.

Tomorrowland 2011 Main Stage

This year’s theme was “The Magical Tree of Life.” This spectacle featured a colossal tree with its ancient branches extending towards the heavens. The tree proudly displayed watchful eyes that observed the crowd of electronic music below. 

Tomorrowland 2012 Main Stage

The 2012 main stage took on a massive book-inspired design, with the pages seemingly flipping open, revealing various artistic elements and decorations.I found this one very creative myself!

Tomorrowland 2013 Main Stage

This year, the festival showcased a visually striking main stage named “The Book of Wisdom – The Arising of Life.” DJs played at the base of an erupting volcano in a rather prehistoric scene.

Tomorrowland 2014 Main Stage

At the heart of Tomorrowland’s allure lies “The Key to Happiness,” an iconic symbol that exudes pure joy. Commanding attention at the main stage, its friendly face remains as endearing as ever. The design was an evolution of the previous Book of Wisdom stages, focusing on happiness as the central theme.

Tomorrowland 2015 Main Stage

The main stage for 2015 embraced a grand castle design, aptly named “The Castle of Unity.” It featured a majestic castle structure, emphasizing the festival’s unifying spirit.

Tomorrowland 2016 Main Stage

Known as “The Elixir of Life,” the 2016 main stage showcased a hidden forest world that revealed itself to performers and the public. The mainstage formed a forest full of beautiful trees to create an enchanting experience.

Tomorrowland 2017 Main Stage

The main stage, named “Amicorum Spectaculum,” transported attendees to a mystical circus, with impressive circus-themed decorations and an immersive atmosphere.

Tomorrowland 2018 Main Stage

Titled “The Story of Planaxis,” the 2018 stage immersed festival-goers in an underwater-themed world, complete with aquatic elements and a breathtaking deep-sea ambiance.

Tomorrowland 2019 Main Stage

The main stage for this year carried the theme “The Book of Wisdom – The Return,” revisiting the iconic book design while incorporating modern technology and breathtaking visuals.

Tomorrowland 2020 Main Stage

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tomorrowland took a digital format in 2020, featuring various virtual stages with mesmerizing 3D designs.

Tomorrowland 2021 Main Stage

In 2021, when the pandemic still influenced festival life, Tomorrowland held its second edition of a digital festival with the theme: “The Carnival of Unity.” Inspired by the enchanting world of circuses, the stage featured a design reminiscent of a giant circus tent.

Tomorrowland 2022 Main Stage

In 2022, Tomorrowland’s main stage exuded a futuristic allure with sleek white and gold shapes. Aptly named “The Reflection of Love,” it epitomized unity and passion, symbolizing the festival’s celebration of love in all its forms.

Tomorrowland 2023 Main Stage

In 2023, Tomorrowland’s main stage transformed into the enchanting realm of Arcadiana, a city of magical craftsmanship. For me, the stage resembled the majestic Disney World castle. The stage reminds me a little of the 2015 main stage, but now it has grown even bigger!

From fairy tales and giant flowers to alchemist labs and underwater worlds, each stage has transported festival-goers to a realm of pure magic and wonder. My favorite (hard to choose) stage is from the year 2012. At that time, I was only 16 years young, and was totally into electronic dance music and was just getting to know Tomorrowland. I was hugely impressed with the stage!
